Sled dog racing is an exciting sport that requires cooperation between the musher and their dog. It can be practiced at various levels, from recreational to championship competitions.
Canicross – A run with a dog attached to a waist belt using a bungee leash.
Bikejoring – cycling with dog attached to bike antenna
Scooter – riding a scooter pulled by one or two dogs.
Sled dog teams – larger teams of dogs pulling a cart (dryland) or a sled (snow conditions).
Minimum dog age: 12 months for canicross, 15-18 months for other disciplines.
The dog must be healthy, in good condition, and have valid vaccinations and deworming.
Minimum dog weight for official competitions: 12 kg (not applicable to amateur categories)
Harness – preferably sled or short type, adapted to the dog's build and working style.
Bungee leash – minimises sudden jerks and ensures comfortable running.
Waist belt (for canicross) – allows for a comfortable distribution of the pulling force.
Helmet and protectors (dla bikejoringu, hulajnogi i zaprzęgów) – dla bezpieczeństwa zawodnika.
To take part in the competition:
Create an account on the website https://mms2.mushing.pl/
Register your dog by providing the required details.
Choose a competition and apply to the correct class.
Send in the required documents (pet passport) and pay the fee.
Starts take place at individual time intervals (15, 30, or 60 seconds).
Fair play rules apply on the course – overtaking must be done safely.
The dog must not be aggressive towards other participants.
Spiked footwear is not allowed, and forcing the dog to run is prohibited.
Regular running training for both the dog and the competitor.
Proper nutrition and hydration for the dog before the start.
With PZSPZ licence – participation in the Polish Cup and Championship.
Competition League – opportunity to gain a licence.
Amateurs – a one-off run for beginners with no weight limits for dogs.
Blue square – means a straight road.
Red circle – informs of an upcoming turn.
Yellow triangle – indicates a dangerous section of the route.
Plate "800" – indicates that 800 metres remain to the finish line.
Greysters – fast, lightweight sled dogs.
ESD (Eurodog) – strong and fast mixed-breed dogs.
Northern breed dogs – siberian husky, alaskan malamute, samoyed (more commonly used in larger teams).
Alaskan husky – durable working dogs without an official breed.
Always use a helmet and protectors in sled competitions.
Check your equipment before every start.
Take care of your dog's recovery after the race.
